The hill country of West Lake is one of the most desirable places to live in Austin. A pristine retreat from the city life, the views from any Westlake neighborhood all seem equally gorgeous with bright, tree covered, hills stretching out to the horizon. Distinctly upscale, homes here are often large and luxurious, and the services and shopping around and support such a prestigious lifestyle.
West Lake encompasses most of that part of Austin that lays south of the Colorado River and west of I-35. Part of the TX-360 loops winds its way northerly through most of this region, revealing an amazing vista of home communities and business parks alike interspersed among dark verdant woodlands covering sun colored rock hills. SH 71 roughly forms the southern edge of the region out to around Bee Cave and neighborhoods in this area are a mix of rural and upscale suburban.
As Austin has grown, West Lake has gained popularity as a place to live. No longer simply the outskirts of the city, it is now considered close to exemplary schools, major tech companies both large and small and a large choice of outdoor recreation areas. West Lake is arguably one of the more coveted areas of Austin to live and do business in, all the while only being a short drive to both the eclectic shopping and dining region of South Austin and the dynamic lifestyle of Downtown.
