Jan 30, 2012
Today is Monday Jan 30th, 2012. When I woke up this morning I had a debate with myself; Do I eat normally, or do I not eat until after the weigh in? I looked at the situation, and it doesn’t matter what I really weigh today, it only matters at the end, so I ate breakfast. Then I started thinking about other people’s suggestions on weight and how they strip down to their underwear to weigh first thing in the morning when they are their lightest. I understand why some people do that, but after all, isn’t whatever you weigh at a certain time your actual weight?
Imagine that you wake up one morning and walk into the bathroom to weigh yourself. You hop on the scale and it says that you weigh 200 lbs, even. You go and cook yourself up a nice breakfast and throw in a glass of milk and a glass of OJ to start your day. You put on your jeans, a shirt, socks and shoes, plus your various things like watches, wallet and so on. You get in your car with your cup of coffee and you drive to the airfield. You get out of the car and walk in to the skydive school. The instructor asks you how much you weigh. Having just weighed yourself this morning, you know you weighed in at 200 lbs. He stresses the importance of exact weight because of the tension lines, chute capacity, tandem jumper weight, etc. What weight do you give him then? (I would add 20 lbs just to be safe!)
All I’m saying is that sometimes we try to weigh ourselves at our lightest possible weight, but even then, you can manipulate your weight down to whatever you want within a certain range. What good does that do, unless you are in a competition? As long as you are healthy and you feel good, weight is just a number that can be manipulated.
That being said, I weighed in this morning for the Bobby Bones Show Competition. Last week I weighed in at 362 lbs, This week I weighed in at 354 lbs, only an 8 pound difference. I will admit, based on my diet and exercise from last week, I was a little bit disappointed with that number. It’s OK though, because it will hopefully help me to push myself a little harder over the next few weeks. There are 5 guys and 5 girls in the competition. I didn’t hear all of the results of the weight loss, but I know that 2 of the guys lost 9 lbs each, one lost something like 14lbs, and one of the girls lost 10 lbs. Everyone is working hard and doing things right, so I need to tweak what I’m doing to get to their level. It will be interesting to see what I can do over this week.
BTW, In the video, I make reference to my Sean John track suit. I’ve worn it twice before today and I think it is a fun item to wear. My sister found it at some store for $7 so it makes a great costume!

About Stephen Smith
I grew up in Georgetown, TX, just a stones throw away from Austin. I moved to Austin to attend UT and entered the real estate world as an intern in Horseshoe Bay in 2003. As I was performing different tasks around the office and for the agents, I quickly realized that I wanted to be an agent. Within a year of becoming licensed, I was managing the office, updating agents on the happenings in the real estate world and listing and selling homes! In 2006 I decided to buy a condo and move back to the great city of Austin where I was to continue working in real estate. Having worked for several top 25 companies in the area, I learned from many talented agents and decided it was time to get my Broker’s license and start my own company. As fortune may have it, I was college friends with Ed’s wife and we realized that we were very good at different parts of this business and that we complimented each other nicely. From this, a partnership was born. My goal is to bring honesty and logic to my clients during their home buying and selling process! When I am not helping a client or looking for smart, ethical agents to join our team, I enjoy serving the Austin Board of Realtors, being on the lake and networking! Most of the time, I like to combine at least 2 out of the previous 3!
