Realty Round Up 2011

Realty Round Up 2011

Oct 27, 2011

Stephen and I spent most of the day today at the Austin Board of Realtors Realty Round Up.  Realty Round Up is a one day event held every year by the Austin Board of Realtors.  A day when we can all come together and see the latest and greatest in new products on the market.  I have a few videos of  the vendors below which may provide some entertainment as well as good information.

First Stop, Mold Inspection Sciences with Doc and Marty from Back to the future.

Justin Clemens, points out that mold is not a death sentence for the house.  It is not the end of the world as many people would want your to believe.  It is a simple thing to take care of, and most of the time it does not actually make any one sick.  But still it should be taken care of.  The important take away for me was that you must be licensed by the State Of Texas and test the substance to declare something mold.  If not you should refer to it as Mr. Bill Evans does, “unidentified black organic substance.”

Stop Two, Level Best Foundation

To be fair, I don’t think Johnny wanted to talk to me on camera. But it was interesting to know that builder are not really doing anything any better now then they were 20 years ago. I am not trying to be mean to builders but we all know that soil around Austin is not as good as we would like, why not put in some drilled piers before you poor the slab? The foundation guys charge like $300 to do them after the house has moved. Builders should be able to get that down to $100 each. I am just saying.

Stop Three, More on Foundations with Centex

Jeff, thanks for explaining to me about the soil. I like the idea of builders piers. I know the builder does not want to pay for them and the home owner does not see them, so they are hard to sell. Lets just all suck it up and start building homes with foundations that are going to stay in one piece. It just makes sense. But thankfully until that time comes we have Jeff and Centex to fix them.

Stop Four, Flohr

Brian, does a great job of explaining hardwood floors to me. I know my buyers are very negative about floors that “bubble up”. You know what I mean, the ones that you can see move from across the room. Or what about the hardwood floors that “click” when you walk. Those suck, and according to Brain could be caused by poor installation.

Last Stop, TREPAC and Stephen Smith

I wanted to get Bill Evans on tape as well, but he was busy doing something in a Sumo suit. He did however find a way to get some money out of me. Next time Bill, it will have to be on camera.

Recap

Realty Round Up was much more fun this year, at least for me. I got to ask some questions to some interesting and important people, see adult men fight in Sumo gear, and lead a discussion on marketing to 5 people. I missed a lot of things I wanted to see, but that is how it goes at these things. Too much to do not enough time to do it.

I was a little disappointed that Realty Round Up Tickets did not include back stages passes to Huey Lewis and The News playing tonight at the Long Center. Or include a special screening of a movie with the Austin Film Festival.

As fun as the 80′s theme is, I am glad I did not go with the Madonna outfit I was thinking about wearing. I saw two or three of those today. I thought Madonna was the 90′s. Oh well, It was fun. I will have more video highlights in a later post. Until next year, see you Realty Round up
